23-Year-Old Joe Mack Gets the Call: Marlins' Top Catching Prospect Making His MLB Debut Monday

The Miami Marlins are shaking things up behind the plate. The team called up catching prospect Joe Mack on Monday and sent fellow backstop Agustin Ramirez down to Triple-A Jacksonville. This is the moment Mack has been working toward since the Marlins drafted him in the first round back in 2021.

The Kid Is Ready

Mack, 23, is ranked as Miami's No. 4 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, and he's earned this shot. At Triple-A this season, he hit .244 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 24 games. Those numbers might not jump off the page, but the Marlins clearly believe he's further along than what the average prospect can do at that level. He could potentially make his major league debut Monday night when the Marlins wrap up their four-game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Out Goes Ramirez

Ramirez, 24, heads down to Jacksonville after struggling to find consistency in Miami. He was batting .230 with two homers and 14 RBIs in 31 games with the Marlins this season. Sometimes a change of scenery, even if it's just a temporary one, is exactly what a player needs to reset and work through things.

The Marlins are betting on youth and upside here. Mack gets his chance tonight, and if he takes it, this could be the beginning of something special for both player and franchise.
