7-Footer From Estonia Just Told North Carolina He's Done: Henri Veesaar Is Heading to the NBA Draft

North Carolina center Henri Veesaar is skipping his senior season and declaring for the NBA Draft. The 7-footer informed new head coach Michael Malone and his staff Thursday evening that he was done in Chapel Hill, and now the basketball world is paying attention.

A Breakout Season That Changed Everything

Veesaar's last year with the Tar Heels was nothing short of explosive. The Estonian big man averaged 17.0 points and 8.7 rebounds across 31 games (all starts), while somehow knocking down 42.6% of his 3-pointers. That kind of range from a 7-footer is exactly what NBA teams are hunting for in today's game. He also added 2.1 assists per contest. The production was real enough that he earned Second Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors.

This isn't some random dude making a surprise departure. Veesaar is projected to be a late first-round pick, which means he's going to hear his name called in the draft. For a player with that kind of security, staying another year in college just doesn't make financial sense anymore.

The Road to This Moment

Veesaar wasn't always a star at North Carolina. He spent two seasons at Arizona before transferring to the Tar Heels, where he averaged just 6.3 points in 66 games (five starts). The jump from bench player to All-ACC performer is the kind of growth trajectory that gets NBA scouts excited. He proved he could develop, improve, and produce when given the opportunity.

Now he's betting on himself at the next level. With the draft approaching, Veesaar is ready to chase his professional dreams.
