A 1997 Kobe Card Just Sold for $3.15M and It's Not Even Close to the Most Expensive Ever
Alternative trading platform Alt dropped $3.15 million on a 1997 Kobe Bryant Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Green card, and yeah, it's the highest price ever paid for a solo Bryant card. But before you lose your mind thinking this is the holy grail of sports cards, pump the brakes. There's literally a more expensive card out there. Wild, right?
Why This Card Costs More Than a House
The green PMG designation is the real flex here. When Metal Universe first dropped these cards, they made 10 green versions (serial numbers 1-10) and 90 red versions (11-100) of each player. That scarcity alone matters. Out of those 10 Kobe green PMGs ever printed, only three have been graded by PSA, the gold standard in card authentication. This one? It's a PSA 5, and only one copy has graded higher. Alt founder and CEO Leore Avidar put it bluntly: "I'd argue this is the best Kobe Bryant card out there. They only made 10 of them, it shines, and it's the first year of basketball PMGs. I've been trying to get one , it's always been my thing."

The previous solo Kobe card record was $2.4 million, sold privately back in September 2025. Another green 1997 Kobe PMG went for $2 million in February 2022 (that one graded an 8.5 from Beckett). The fact that Bryant's signature and a game-worn NBA logo patch are on the card definitely sweetens the deal, but the scarcity is what's driving this insane valuation. We're talking generational wealth territory for a piece of cardboard here.
