Alexander-Walker Just Won the NBA's Most Improved Player Award and Nobody in the League Saw It Coming

The Hawks guard pulled off something only four other players have managed in the last 35 seasons: he jumped his scoring by 11.0 points per game or more, year over year. That kind of leap doesn't happen by accident. That's a full offensive overhaul, a confidence explosion, and a season that's going to be talked about for years.

The Rarest Air in Basketball

Let's break down what Alexander-Walker actually did here. In the last 35 seasons, only five players total have put together a year-over-year scoring jump of 11.0+ ppg. Think about that. Thirty-five years. Five guys. Now add Alexander-Walker to that list as number five, and you're looking at air so rare that most players will never even approach it. This isn't a marginal improvement. This isn't "oh, he had a pretty good year." This is a legitimate transformation.

What This Award Means

The Kia NBA Most Improved Player award is one of the league's most prestigious individual honors because it recognizes real growth, real work, and real results. Alexander-Walker earned it by doing the hardest thing in professional basketball: getting dramatically better at a high level. Whether it was his shot selection, his court vision, his aggression, or his conditioning, something clicked this season in a major way. The Hawks are built around winners, and now they've got another one stepping into the spotlight.

Heading into the postseason, this kind of momentum matters. Teams that have young guys making jumps like this tend to play with confidence and belief. Atlanta's got one of those guys now, and the rest of the league knows it.
