Cade Povich Turned 26 and Immediately Pitched One of His Best Games This Season

On his birthday, Baltimore's Cade Povich reminded everyone why he's in the big leagues. The Orioles pitcher delivered one of his strongest performances of the young season, allowing just one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings as Baltimore rolled past San Francisco, 6-2. It was the kind of start that changes the conversation around a rotation.

Povich Carries the Load on Opening Day Performance

For Povich, this was his first start of the season, and he made it count. One run in 6 2/3 innings is the kind of line you circle on the calendar. The 26-year-old was sharp, efficient, and exactly what the Orioles needed against a Giants lineup that came in hungry. This wasn't a lucky outing either, this was Povich working through his stuff and keeping San Francisco off balance all night.

Alonso's Bat Powers the Offense

While Povich was shutting things down on the mound, Baltimore's bats were doing enough damage to put the game away. Alonso delivered a big hit that helped push the Orioles over the top. It wasn't a slugfest, but it was exactly the kind of timely hitting that wins games in April.

Injuries Loom Over the Clubhouse

The win came with some complications. Mountcastle left the game with left foot pain and has a broken bone in his foot. The injury list has already claimed Rutschman with left ankle inflammation. These are the kinds of hits that can derail a season if you're not careful, so the Orioles will need depth to step up while they sort out who's healthy and who isn't heading into their next matchup.
