Cal Raleigh Back in the Lineup as DH, and the Mariners Need Him Now

The Seattle Mariners got some good news on May 5: Cal Raleigh is back in the lineup, and he's taking the designated hitter spot. After some time away, the catcher is ready to help carry the offense as the team looks to keep pace early in the season.

A Boost to the Lineup

Having Raleigh back in the mix gives the Mariners another bat in a lineup that's still figuring itself out this early in the year. The DH role lets him contribute his power without the physical demands of catching every night, which is smart roster management. At 17-19 on the season, Seattle needs all hands on deck, and Raleigh is exactly the kind of hitter who can change a game in a hurry when he's clicking.

Building Momentum

The Mariners faced the Atlanta Braves on May 5, with the game going down to the wire. Seattle pulled out a 5-4 victory, and getting Raleigh back into the fold is another positive sign as the team tries to build some real traction. Every game matters at this stage, and having your core pieces healthy and available is half the battle in trying to make a run.

Looking Ahead

With Raleigh back in the lineup and a win under their belt against one of the stronger teams in baseball, the Mariners have something to build on. The early season has been a mixed bag, but this is exactly the kind of roster move and offensive boost that can help turn things around. Keep an eye on how Raleigh performs as the team continues rolling forward.
