Carolina Is One Win Away From Sending Ottawa Home, and the Senators Are Running Out of Time

The Hurricanes are on the verge of a first-round sweep after pushing the Senators to the brink with a Game 3 victory. Carolina is playing to their identity right now, and Ottawa's season is hanging by a thread.

This is playoff hockey at its most brutal. One team is two wins away from moving on. The other is one loss away from going home. That's the reality for the Senators after Game 3, and it's a reality that came with some serious injury concerns when Sanderson left in the second period.

Carolina Showing Their Teeth

The Hurricanes aren't just winning, they're playing the way they know how to win. Blake sent Miller's dish into the back of the net, and Batherson added another goal on a backhand shot into the cage. When you're playing playoff hockey in the first round, you need to execute when chances come, and Carolina did exactly that. Two goals, two chances converted. That's the formula that gets you past a desperate team like Ottawa.

Ottawa's Injury Problem Gets Worse

Sanderson leaving in the second period of Game 3 is exactly what the Senators didn't need right now. You're down in a series, fighting for your season, and now you're dealing with a key player potentially unavailable moving forward. That's the kind of compounding problem that can sink a playoff run before it even gets started.

What's Next For These Teams

The Hurricanes have put themselves in position to end this series. Carolina knows what they have to do: go out there and finish it. For Ottawa, it's desperation time. Game 4 isn't just important. It's survival.
