Caufield Still Chasing 50 as Canadiens Escape Panthers in Shootout Drama
Montreal pulled off a comeback nobody saw coming, edging Florida 4-3 in a shootout that proved the Canadiens can find ways to win even when they're not playing their best hockey. But here's the thing: beating a bad Panthers team in a shootout isn't exactly the statement win that gets you hyped about this group right now.
The Comeback That Felt Like It Had to Happen
The Canadiens clawed their way back from behind to force overtime, then finished it in the shootout. It's a win, sure. It counts two points in the standings. But the way it happened, scrapping against one of the weaker teams in the league, left plenty of questions about whether this team is actually clicking or just surviving night to night.

Cole Caufield is still hunting for his 50th goal. The fact that he hasn't gotten there yet despite all the opportunities speaks to something that's been nagging at this team: when the games tighten up, when you need your best players to elevate, there's been a gap. A comeback win over Florida feels less like a turning point and more like treading water.
Engstrom Making His Mark
Adam Engstrom picked up his first NHL point with the Canadiens in the win. That's a bright spot for the organization and a sign that the young depth is getting chances. But individual milestones don't win playoff races, and this team knows it.
The Canadiens got the two points. Now comes the real test: can they string together performances that actually look impressive?
