Chase DeLauter's Hot Start Takes a Hit: Guardians Rookie Leaves Game With Foot Injury
Well, that's not how you want to see a red-hot rookie's night end. Cleveland Guardians right fielder Chase DeLauter got out of the batter's box in the first inning Tuesday night in Los Angeles after fouling a pitch off his back foot from Dodgers starter Shohei Ohtani. The kid tried to shake it off, took a few practice swings, and stepped back up to the plate. But after hitting a grounder to third and getting thrown out, DeLauter hobbled straight to the tunnel and didn't come back.
The Injury Report
The Guardians announced after the game that DeLauter suffered a left foot contusion. The good news: X-rays came back negative. CJ Kayfus took over in right field for the bottom of the first, so at least the team didn't have to shuffle the lineup mid-inning. Still, losing DeLauter out of the lineup stings, especially considering the month he's been having.

DeLauter was named American League rookie of the week after launching four home runs in his first three games to start the season. That's an absolutely bonkers stat. Think about that for a second. He's just the second player ever to hit four homers in his first three games, joining Trevor Story of the Colorado Rockies back in 2019. The kid came into the league swinging, and now he's dealing with a foot injury. Hopefully he's back in the lineup soon because this Guardians team needs his bat in the middle of their order if they're going to compete in the AL.
