Cutter Gauthier Went Full Playmaker Mode and the Oilers Have a Problem

The Anaheim Ducks just forced Game 3 and they did it with the kind of performance that makes you sit up and pay attention. Cutter Gauthier didn't come to play around in Game 2 on Wednesday night, dropping two goals and an assist in a 6-4 beatdown of the Edmonton Oilers. That's the kind of line that swings a series before it even gets rolling.

Gauthier Did the Heavy Lifting

When you need someone to step up in a playoff game, Gauthier answered the bell hard. Two goals and a helper is playoff-series-changing hockey. He wasn't just scoring either, he was setting up his teammates and making things happen all over the ice. Ryan Poehling chipped in as well to keep the Oilers defense honest, but Gauthier was the story here. Edmonton came in thinking they could steal Game 2 on the road, and instead they're heading home down in the series.

Series Is Wide Open Now

This wasn't a blowout that got out of hand early. It was a legitimate 6-4 battle, the kind of playoff hockey that makes you remember why you love this sport. The Ducks leveled the Western Conference first-round series with this win, which means both teams are standing on equal ground now. Game 3 is Friday night in Anaheim, and that's a completely different animal than where we were after Game 1.

The Oilers have to figure out how to slow down what Gauthier is doing, and the Ducks have momentum heading into their building. That's a dangerous combination in the postseason.
