Florida CRUSHED the NBA Draft Deadline, and College Hoops Is Officially ON NOTICE

Okay, college hoops fans, buckle up! The NBA Draft withdrawal deadline just flew by, which means teams finally know what their rosters are actually gonna look like. And let me tell you, Andy Katz just dropped his Power 44 Rankings, and if you thought you knew who was who, think again. The biggest winner? Absolutely Florida, hands down. They held onto all three of their potential NBA Draft picks, blowing everyone else out of the water! Seriously, the Gators are coming into the season with a massive chip on their shoulders after that Round of 32 loss last year, and they look ready to make some serious noise.

The Top Dogs Are Reloading and Ready to Roll

So, who’s at the very top of Katz’s list? Florida, obviously, rocking the #1 spot. If Denzel Aberdeen gets cleared, they’ll have four starters from their 2025 National Championship squad. That’s insane! Talk about a core group coming back with something to prove. Right behind them at #2, we’ve got the Duke Blue Devils. Coach Jon Scheyer is still chasing that first National Championship in his fifth season, and they’ve totally reloaded. They're bringing back major players like Caleb Foster, Dame Sarr, and Patrick Ngbonga, plus they snagged Wisconsin transfer John Blackwell and the #2 freshman class in the whole country. They're always a threat, and this year is no different.

Then at #3, you’ve got the reigning National Champions, Michigan. Yeah, they lost their "big three" of Aday Mara, Yaxel Lendeborg, and Morez Johnson Jr. to the NBA Draft, but don't sleep on them! They still have Final Four Most Outstanding Player Elliot Cadeau. Plus, they brought in three strong Power Four transfers and kept guard Trey McKenney, who averaged 9.9 points in 22.1 minutes off the bench last season. Look for McKenney to become a superstar in a starting role this season.

Rising Threats and Portal Victories

Further down the list, but just as dangerous, are teams like Illinois at #4. Fresh off their first Final Four run since 2005, they’ve got their sights set on a Big Ten Conference title and potentially their first National Championship ever. They kept five players who all averaged at least 17.2 minutes per game, and Andrej Stojaković withdrawing from the draft? That was the ultimate cherry on top for Brad Underwood’s squad. And holy cow, Tennessee at #5? Rick Barnes is heading into year 12, and this might be their best roster yet! They basically built their entire starting lineup through the Transfer Portal, hauling in Juke Harris (ranked #4), Terrence Hill Jr. (#24), and Jalen Haralson (#39). After three straight Elite Eight losses, they are absolutely desperate for their first-ever Final Four appearance.

UConn, always a contender, sits at #6. They've made it to the National Championship three times in the last four seasons, but Solo Ball being out for the season with a hand injury is a tough blow. Still, they kept their star guard duo of Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullins and brought in Duke transfer Nik Khamenia. And don’t forget Michigan State at #7. Jeremy Fears withdrawing from the draft solidified their roster. With three starters returning from last season’s Sweet Sixteen team and adding four-star guard Jasiah Jervis, Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo is definitely gunning for his ninth Final Four and second National Championship. These guys are always dangerous!

So, what does this all mean? It’s only May, but the stage is already set for an absolutely wild college basketball season. With teams reloading, retaining key talent, and others desperate to make that Final Four leap, every game is going to matter. Get ready, because the battles for conference titles and that ultimate National Championship trophy are going to be legendary!
