Former Seahawk Shot in LA, Now Hospitalized and Expected to Recover
Rickey Thenarse, who spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, was hospitalized after being shot in Los Angeles last Friday. The former NFL player underwent emergency surgery after being shot in the abdomen, but he is expected to recover from his injuries.
According to TMZ Sports, the shooting may have stemmed from a personal dispute involving Thenarse, his girlfriend, and the father of her child, though the exact cause of the tension remains unclear. Witnesses reported seeing a man and a woman flee the scene in a black SUV. No arrests have been made as of now.

Before his brief NFL stint, Thenarse was a standout two-way player at Jordan High School in Los Angeles, where he earned four-star recruit status. During his senior season, he rushed for 1,344 yards and 10 touchdowns on 112 carries, while also catching 19 passes for 628 yards and five more scores. On the defensive side, he added serious production as a safety. ESPN ranked him the No. 94 overall prospect in the nation, and he earned first-team all-city and all-state honors.
As a junior, Thenarse had put together an even more dominant campaign, recording 1,234 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, along with 15 receptions for 307 yards and four scores. He also registered 20 tackles and three interceptions from the safety position, earning first-team all-Eastern League recognition.
Despite interest from USC and UCLA, Thenarse chose to play for Nebraska. He also received offers from California, Colorado, Fresno State, Oregon, and Washington.
The Road to Seattle Ended Fast
Thenarse's college career at Nebraska didn't unfold as expected. He appeared in 51 games between 2006 and 2010, redshirting in 2009 due to injury, and earned special teams MVP honors in both 2006 and 2007. Going undrafted in 2011, he signed with Seattle but recorded just one tackle across three preseason games before being released during final roster cuts. That marked the end of his professional football career.
