Here's How The Seattle Mariners Can Make The Playoffs

For Seattle Mariners, the season feels over... As a Mariners fan myself, I feel as if I have the right to say that. The Mariners loss to the Houston Astros on Tuesday did a couple things:

  • Gave the Houston Astros the AL West title.
  • Took the Mariners playoff chances from 6.7% to 2.7% on ESPN.
  • Took the Mariners playoff chances from 6.9% to 2.8% on FanGraphs.

While it's not completely over, it's pretty much over. Yet, the Mariners do have a couple of ways they could make the playoffs. It's really hard, but its something:

It’s down to this for the Mariners (81-77):

*If M’s go 4-0, they need:

  • Royals (83-74) to lose at least 4 of their last 5.
  • Twins (81-76) to lose at least 2 of their last 5.

*If M’s go 3-1, they need:

  • Royals to lose out
  • Twins to lose at least 3

The hard part right now, is that the Mariners DO NOT control their own destiny. They need to win-out most likely, and hope for another couple days of the Royals and Twins collapsing.

The only real hope here, is that the Twins and Royals have been collapsing, but likely not to the point of losing out the rest of the way...

Still this year was a really sad way for the Mariners to go out...
