Seahawks Week 1 Could Be the Biggest Stage in the NFL, and Sam Darnold Knows It
The Seahawks are looking at a massive opportunity for their 2026 season opener. According to a report, Seattle could land a major Week 1 showcase that puts the spotlight directly on Sam Darnold and Mike Macdonald's offense right out of the gate.
This isn't just another September game. A prime time Week 1 slot against a marquee opponent is the kind of platform that sets the tone for an entire season. For a Seahawks team that's made significant moves this offseason, it's a chance to announce themselves early and often.

The Seahawks have retooled their receiving corps in a big way. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Rashid Shaheed, and Cooper Kupp give Sam Darnold some serious weapons to work with. Under the direction of offensive coordinator Brian Fleury, this group has the talent to put points on the board fast.
The question has always been about consistency and chemistry early in the season. But if you get a nationally televised Week 1 game, that's your chance to make a statement. Darnold threw for 4,694 yards last season and showed he can be a reliable QB when the pieces around him are right. Now he's got those pieces.
What a Prime Time Opener Means for Seattle
Week 1 primetime slots aren't handed out randomly. The NFL knows what sells, and they know what generates buzz. A Seahawks team with new weapons and a coach in Mike Macdonald who's got something to prove makes for compelling television.
For fans at Lumen Field and watching across the country, this is your first real look at what the 2026 Seahawks are made of. No preseason can replicate the pressure of real games. No warm up schedule matters. Week 1 is where reputations are built or damaged.
The Seahawks have the roster talent to make noise this year. If they land this showcase and come out swinging against a big name opponent, it sends a message to the entire league that Seattle is ready to compete.
The 2026 season kicks off soon. Keep your eyes on that Week 1 schedule. If the Seahawks land that prime time slot, you won't want to miss it.
