Houston Dash Land USL Super League MVP Emina Ekic, and the Midfield Just Got a Whole Lot Deeper

The Houston Dash made a statement move Tuesday, signing USL Super League Player of the Year Emina Ekic to a deal through the 2027 NWSL season. This is the kind of acquisition that changes how a team looks on the field, and the Dash are betting big on the 26-year-old midfielder to make an immediate impact.

From Spokane to Houston: A Star on the Rise

Ekic just finished a dominant run with Spokane Zephyr in the USL Super League, taking home the inaugural Player of the Year award for the 2024-25 season. We're talking 10 goals and 6 assists from a midfielder. That kind of production doesn't grow on trees, especially from someone who can operate in the middle of the park. She's coming over from Lexington SC on a transfer that brings serious pedigree to the Dash's roster.

The Career Arc That Led Here

Ekic was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft, which means the league has been tracking her trajectory for years. She spent the 2021-23 seasons with Racing Louisville, logging 38 appearances and cutting her teeth at the highest level before heading to the USL Super League. Now she's back in the NWSL as an elevated player with European-level experience and a trophy case that actually means something.

The deal includes a mutual option for 2028, so the Dash have built in flexibility while securing a proven winner. This is the kind of midfield upgrade that's hard to ignore heading into the back half of the season.
