Jake Knapp's Thumb Just Ended His Week in Miami Before It Started

The golf world lost one of its hottest players before Thursday's first round at the Cadillac Championship. Jake Knapp withdrew from the event at Trump National Doral's Blue Monster Course in Miami due to a left thumb strain, handing his spot to Norway's Kristoffer Reitan.

The timing stings. Knapp was absolutely cooking this season.

What Knapp Was Building

The 31-year-old had one of the best early seasons on tour. He finished inside the top 11 in seven of his nine events heading into Miami. His resume included an 11th place finish at the Masters just weeks earlier. The guy was performing at a level that had real implications for his standing in professional golf.

Currently ranked No. 36 in the world, Knapp sits 13th in the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup standings. That kind of positioning early in the season matters. Those points add up. Those finishes build momentum heading into the summer stretch.

The Speed Bump Nobody Needed

His only real blemish came at the RBC Heritage earlier this month when he tied for 74th. But one bad week doesn't erase a season of consistent excellence. The thumb strain, though, is different. Injuries stop you cold. You can't grind through a thumb problem in professional golf. Every swing, every grip, every pressure moment aggravates it.

Now Knapp watches from home while the field takes shots at Doral without him in it.
