John Harbaugh's First Giants Draft Is Built on Size, Physicality, and Violence

The New York Giants' 2026 draft under new head coach John Harbaugh had one unmistakable message: bigger, stronger, meaner. And they weren't shy about it.

Harbaugh's fingerprints were all over this class from pick one. The Giants went linebacker with the fifth overall selection, tabbing Arvell Reese out of Ohio State. The kid is only 20 years old but he's 6-foot-4, 241 pounds, and ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash. Here's the kicker: Reese describes his own play as "violent." That's the kind of language you use when you're picking for a Harbaugh defense.

Road Graders and Pit Bulls

The offensive line got the same treatment. With the 10th overall pick, the Giants grabbed Francis Mauigoa, a massive 6-5, 329-pound road-grading offensive lineman built to move bodies in the trenches. That's not a player, that's a bulldozer in pads.

The secondary followed suit. In Round 2, at No. 37, they selected cornerback Colton Hood. Harbaugh's description? "Pit bull." That tells you exactly how the new coach views this guy and what he brings to the field: relentless, physical, always competing.

The Blueprint Is Clear

By Round 3, the pattern was unmistakable. They grabbed Malachi Fields, a big-bodied pass catcher at 6-4, 223 pounds. General manager Joe Schoen clearly bought into Harbaugh's vision: stack the roster with athletes who can impose their will physically.

This isn't the Giants trying to be cute or trendy. This is Harbaugh doing exactly what Harbaugh does. Build it big, build it mean, build it to win in the trenches on both sides of the ball. The 2026 draft class is the physical blueprint of what's coming to the Meadowlands.
