Josh Naylor's Three-Run Blast Turns One-Run Lead Into a Blowout Win Over Twins

Josh Naylor had a night to forget and then a moment to remember. After getting thrown out on a stolen base attempt in the early innings, and then getting thrown out again two innings later, the Mariners outfielder did what he does best: made the bad plays disappear with one beautiful swing.

In the eighth inning, Naylor took reliever Cole Sands deep with a three-run homer that turned what was a one-run game into a comfortable 7-1 blowout. That blast essentially locked down the Mariners' victory over the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis on Tuesday night.

From Baserunning Disasters to Dingers

Look, it wasn't the prettiest game for Naylor personally. Two outs on the basepaths in the same contest? That's rough. But that's baseball, and that's why you've got guys who can change the entire complexion of a game with one swing. Naylor is one of those guys. After putting the Mariners in a hole earlier with his aggressive baserunning, he turned around and gave us the dagger that made sure Minnesota couldn't come back.

Mariners Get the W

A 7-1 victory on the road is exactly the kind of game you want from your team. You want dominant pitching, timely hitting, and someone stepping up when it matters most. Naylor's eighth-inning blast did all of that. It took a game that was within reach for Minnesota and pushed it well out of reach. That's the difference between a close game and a comfortable win.

The Mariners will look to keep rolling when they continue their series against the Twins, looking to take another statement win before heading back to T-Mobile Park.
