Justin Thomas Is Back at Harbour Town as Defending Champ, and This Elite 82-Player Field Means Business
The lighthouse at Harbour Town Golf Links has always meant one thing: time to exhale after the Masters. But this week in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, there's nothing relaxing about the field teeing off Thursday. Justin Thomas, who won this thing last year in a playoff over Andrew Novak, is back as the defending champion. And he's bringing eight of the top 10 players in the world with him.
This is the Heritage in its fourth year as a PGA Tour signature event, which means a $20 million purse and no 36-hole cut for an elite field of 82. Only Rory McIlroy (fresh off back-to-back Masters wins) and Justin Rose (who came up short at Augusta again) are sitting this one out from the world's best.

Thomas brought his wife Molly and their daughter, who's almost a year and a half old, from Augusta down to South Carolina. Last year was her first time making the trip, but Thomas knows the real difference this year. "She's running around. She's doing more," he said. "Hopefully we'll get some time to go to the beach, especially with how nice the weather is."
He remembers last year vividly: Sunday morning before the final round, the whole family hit the beach and let her play in the water. That's the Heritage vibe.
On the course, Thomas has the numbers to back up his trophy. He tied for fifth here the year before his win and has shot in the 60s in 12 of his last 13 rounds at Harbour Town. The par-71, 7,213-yard layout got a restoration since last year, but Thomas called the tweaks "very, very subtle" ones that keep the course's character alive.
Max Homa's Rebound and Jacob Bridgeman's Homecoming
Max Homa just closed the Masters with a 67 to tie for ninth, and this could be his breakthrough week. After a disappointing 2025 season, he's been playing nicely all fall and into this year. "Right around May of last year I knew that I had gotten through the really bad part," Homa said. "I haven't had high results, but the game has been quite good."
Then there's Jacob Bridgeman, who's making some real noise. He finished top-30 in the FedEx Cup playoffs last year as a relative unknown, then broke through in February to win the Genesis Invitational. Now he's No. 3 in the FedEx Cup standings and coming home. The South Carolina native and Clemson grad grew up playing junior golf right here at Harbour Town. "This one sort of feels like a home game to me," Bridgeman said. "I grew up playing junior golf at this course, and then I got to play in my first Heritage last year. Coming back is amazing."
