Leo Carlsson and Troy Terry Just Ended Connor McDavid's Run: Ducks Shock the Oilers in Six

The Anaheim Ducks just did something nobody saw coming. They walked into their own barn Thursday night, beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 in Game 6, and eliminated one of the league's most talented rosters from the playoffs. Leo Carlsson, Troy Terry, and Chris Kreider each finished with a goal and two assists, leading a dominant performance that sent the two-time defending Western Conference champs packing in the first round.

This is huge for a Ducks team that hasn't won a playoff series since 2017. They ended a seven-year postseason drought by knocking out McDavid and an Oilers squad that looked vulnerable all season. Goalie Lukas Dostal was absolutely locked in, making 25 saves and keeping Edmonton's high-powered offense at bay when it mattered most. Cutter Gauthier chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Ryan Poehling scored the opening goal to set the tone early.

Edmonton's Season Unravels

For the Oilers, this is as bad as it gets. They followed up their worst regular season since 2021 by exiting the playoffs in the first round for the first time since that same year. Connor Murphy and Vasily Podkolzin scored in the loss, but it wasn't nearly enough to mount a comeback against a Ducks team that came to play.

Next Up: Vegas or Utah

Anaheim's reward? They'll face either the Vegas Golden Knights or the Utah Mammoth in the next round. Vegas currently leads that series 3-2, with Game 7 heading to Salt Lake City on Friday night. The Ducks are rolling right now, and they're heading into the second round with serious momentum.
