Los Angeles Thieves and Paris Gentle Mates Both Hit 3-0, and the Call of Duty League's Stage 3 Major Is Starting to Take Shape

Two more teams went perfect on Sunday to join OpTic Texas at the top of the Call of Duty League's Stage 3 Major qualifying bracket. The Los Angeles Thieves punched their ticket with a 3-1 victory over Vancouver Surge, while Paris Gentle Mates stormed back from an early deficit to beat the winless Boston Breach 3-2. Now you've got three undefeated teams sitting atop the standings heading into Week 3, and the competition is only getting tighter.

Thieves Flex Their Dominance on the Maps

Los Angeles came out swinging against Vancouver, edging the Surge 250-241 on Gridlock Hardpoint in a tight opener. Then they put the foot down with a 6-0 demolition on Den Search and Destroy. Vancouver grabbed one back with an 8-1 runaway on Den Overload to stay alive, but the Thieves closed it out with a 250-134 statement win on Sake Hardpoint. That's the kind of balanced performance you need to stay undefeated in this league.

Gentle Mates Battle Back From 2-0 Down

Paris had their backs against the wall early. Boston came out firing, taking the first two maps: a 250-219 win on Sake Hardpoint and a 6-3 victory on Fringe Search and Destroy. But the Gentle Mates didn't panic. They kept their composure, stole a 4-3 win on Exposure Overload to get back in it, then rattled off consecutive wins on Colossus Hardpoint (250-157) and Gridlock Search and Destroy (6-3) to seal the comeback. That's the kind of clutch performance that separates champions from everyone else.

G2 Minnesota also earned their first qualifying win Sunday with a 3-0 shutout of Miami Heretics: 250-193 on Colossus Hardpoint, 6-5 on Scar Search and Destroy, and 3-2 on Den Overland.

The Road Ahead Gets Real

Week 3 kicks off Friday with three massive matches: Riyadh Falcons face Miami Heretics, Paris Gentle Mates take on OpTic Texas, and Vancouver Surge battle Toronto KOI. The Stage 3 Major itself goes down May 15-17 at DreamHack Atlanta, and the 12-team qualifying round robin will determine everything. Right now, Los Angeles leads the pack at 3-0 with a 9-2 map differential. OpTic Texas and Paris Gentle Mates are both 3-0 as well, but Los Angeles has the edge. Watch Friday. This is where it gets serious.
