Mike Vrabel Is Skipping Draft Day 3 For Counseling and the Patriots Are Standing Behind Him

Here's a head coach making a call that most wouldn't have the guts to make. Mike Vrabel is stepping away from the final day of the NFL Draft to seek counseling, and the New England Patriots organization is fully supporting the decision. In a league where you're expected to be glued to your draft board every second from Round 1 through Round 7, Vrabel is choosing to prioritize his own wellbeing instead. That's the move.

The Bigger Picture

This isn't some last-minute thing either. Vrabel announced it ahead of time, making it clear this was intentional and planned. The Patriots didn't hesitate to back their head coach on this one. It sends a message that mental health and getting the right support isn't something you put on hold because it's draft weekend. In a profession where the pressure never stops, where every decision gets dissected by 10,000 talking heads, Vrabel is taking control of his own situation and handling it head-on.

What It Means For New England

The Patriots still have plenty of football left to play this season, and having a healthy, supported head coach matters. Day 3 of the draft is important for finding depth and special teams contributors, sure, but losing Vrabel physically for one day isn't going to derail New England's plans. His assistants can handle the board while he gets what he needs. The organization clearly understands that backing your head coach in a moment like this builds loyalty and shows that you value the person, not just the job title.

Whatever comes next in the draft, the Patriots got this one right.
