Oklahoma State Just Landed Two of the Nation's Top 3 Transfer Portal Players and the Big 12 Should Be Terrified

The women's college basketball transfer portal closed on April 20, and the dust has settled on what might be the most aggressive roster overhaul of the offseason. While some teams are looking at rebuilding projects, Oklahoma State just made a move that could reshape the Big 12 entirely.

How Oklahoma State Flipped Nine Departures Into a Powerhouse

Head coach Jacie Hoyt didn't panic when nine Cowgirls entered the transfer portal. Instead, she doubled down and completely revamped the roster. The result? A team that looks significantly stronger on paper than it did after a second-round NCAA Tournament exit.

The centerpiece of Oklahoma State's portal haul is Audi Crooks, the nation's leading scorer from Iowa State. That's not a complementary piece. That's the best offensive talent available, and the Cowgirls got her. Pairing Crooks with dynamic SEC guard Liv McGill from Florida gives Oklahoma State two of USA TODAY Sports' top three transfer portal players.

The Pieces Around the Stars

But Hoyt's staff didn't stop there. They added Ellie Brueggemann, who shot at a seventh-best rate nationally from three-point range this past season. They also brought in versatile Rutgers forward Nènè Ndiaye. Most importantly, despite nine players leaving, they kept Stailee Heard, one of their best players.

That starting five of McGill, Brueggemann, Heard, Ndiaye, and Crooks is going to create matchup nightmares that opponents will have to game-plan around all season long.

Oklahoma State walked into the portal and walked out looking like contenders.
