Paul Rothrock Breaks Through and Seattle Sounders Leave Kansas City With a Win

The Sounders went into Sporting Park on Saturday and came out with three points. Paul Rothrock found the back of the net, and that was all Seattle needed to take down Sporting Kansas City in MLS regular season action on May 2. Final score: 1-0, Sounders.

A Road Win in Game 10

This was Game 10 of the 2026 regular season, and the Sounders showed up ready to work in Kansas City. Kickoff came at 1:40 p.m. CT at Sporting Park, and by the time the final whistle blew, Seattle had secured a crucial road victory. In MLS, you don't always get performances that clean on the road, so this one matters.

Rothrock Delivers When It Counts

Rothrock was the difference maker, putting one in the net to give the Sounders the lead. One goal was all it took. The Sounders defense held strong after that, and Kansas City couldn't find an equalizer. This is the kind of performance you build on when you're fighting for positioning in the league.

The Sounders have some serious talent in the lineup, including veteran midfielder Cristian Roldan, who was recently called up to the USMNT, and Jordan Morris leading the attack. Having playmakers like that who can execute when opportunities present themselves makes all the difference in tight matches.

Looking Ahead

The Sounders are back in action soon, and they'll be looking to build on this road result. Early season performance like this sets the tone for the rest of the campaign. With 22 games still ahead, every three points counts. Seattle is clicking right now, and if they can keep this momentum going, things are going to get interesting in the league standings.
