Rainier Beach's Tyran Stokes Could Announce His College Choice Monday, and Kansas or Kentucky Is About to Win Big

The No. 1 basketball prospect in the entire country might be making his decision as soon as Monday. Tyran Stokes, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Rainier Beach High School right here in Seattle, is down to two finalists: Bill Self's Kansas Jayhawks or Mark Pope's Kentucky Wildcats. Jeff Goodman from Field of 68 broke the news, though he admitted he's waiting to see it actually happen.

A Seattle Kid With Nationwide Talent

Stokes is ranked No. 1 nationally by 247 Sports Composite and is a McDonald's All-American with a 7-foot wingspan. He plays like a forward but moves the ball like a guard, which is exactly why every major program in America has been chasing him. He made an official visit to Kentucky on June 8, 2025, and visited Kansas on April 18, 2025, before narrowing his list down to the Jayhawks, Wildcats, Oregon, Louisville, and USC.

What Stokes Did This Season Was Absurd

His Rainier Beach Vikings went 29-1 in his senior season and won Washington's Class 3A state championship. We're talking about averaging 31 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and four steals per game. He shot 53 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line, which earned him the 2025-26 MaxPreps Washington High School Basketball Player of the Year award. Those numbers don't lie.

Kentucky is making a serious move to land him too. Coach Mark Pope hired Rainier Beach assistant and former Kentucky standout Jamal Crawford onto his staff in recent weeks, a clear signal that Pope is all in on bringing Stokes to Lexington.

One of the two programs is about to get a generational talent. We'll find out which one as soon as Monday.
