Roldan Returns and the Sounders Battle to a Stalemate Against Sporting KC

The Seattle Sounders FC took the field against Sporting Kansas City on May 2nd looking to build on their strong 2026 season start, but came away with a 1-1 draw. It wasn't the three points the Rave Green were hunting for, but with Cristian Roldan back in the starting XI after his recent call-up to the USMNT, there were some positives to take from the match.

Roldan In, Early Drama Out of the Gate

The Sounders got their squad right into the action with Roldan reintegrated into the lineup. Paul Rothrock kept things interesting early, scoring for SKC in the second minute to give the visitors an instant lead. It was exactly the kind of start you don't want to see at home, and it meant Seattle had to respond quickly if they wanted to earn anything from this one.

Morris Leads the Way Against an Old Rival

Jordan Morris continues to pile up the goals against Sporting KC over his career, leading all active players in scoring against the club. That track record came into play as the Sounders pushed to level the match and find their footing. The midfield battle was intense, but ultimately the teams couldn't find a breakthrough to separate themselves, leaving the result locked at 1-1 when the final whistle sounded.

The draw keeps the Sounders in the mix early in the season as they continue their 2026 campaign at Lumen Field. Next up, Seattle will look to turn a result like this into three points and keep their momentum rolling through the spring fixtures.
