Russell Wilson Stepped Up to Bat at Yankee Stadium and the Result Was Peak 2026

Remember when Russell Wilson was slinging it in the NFL? Well, this past weekend he traded the gridiron for the diamond when he suited up for the Savannah Bananas to take on the Party Animals at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. And yes, the Super Bowl XLVIII-winning QB actually got a chance to hit.

From the Giants to Banana Ball

Wilson, 37, last wore an NFL uniform for the New York Giants in 2025, where he threw for 831 yards and three touchdowns. He got benched in Week 4 last season and is now an unrestricted free agent. But instead of sitting around waiting for the next opportunity to materialize, he decided to take a swing at something completely different.

One Strike, One Swing, One Broken Bat

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Wilson stepped into the batter's box with one strike already on him. He connected with the pitch and took off sprinting to first base, but there was a catch. A piece of his bat broke on the contact. The result? A bouncer to first that the Party Animals turned into a trick play to end the inning. Not exactly the highlight-reel moment you'd imagine, but hey, the man put the ball in play.

Party Animals Take Down the Bananas

Unfortunately for Wilson and the Bananas, Sunday didn't end in celebration. The Party Animals walked away with a dominant 7-2 victory, handing the Bananas their second loss of the year. Not the storybook debut Wilson was probably hoping for, but you've got to respect the effort.

In January, Wilson told reporters he's "not blinking" and plans to continue playing in the NFL. So while his Banana Ball appearance might be a fun detour, don't expect the 37-year-old to hang up the cleats just yet.
