The Seattle Seahawks are back to the Super for the first time after a 10 season hiatus, and a lot of that has to do with Sam Darnold dominating the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship.
While the Seahawks have spent a lot of the season relying on the defense, and on the run-game in many moments, Sam Darnold has still showed up when needed. He sure showed up against the Rams to go to the Super Bowl.
In the game, Darnold completed 25 of 36 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns, while also not committing any turnovers.
In March, he signed a three-year, $100 million contract with the Seahawks. Which was a pretty good value deal, and now he is cashing in some more with some great incentives from all the winning the Seahawks are doing.
Sam Darnold’s bonus checklist SO FAR:
- $500K for 4,000+ yards
- $500K for 67.5%+ completion rate
- $500K for Top 10 offense
- $500K for Playoff berth
- $500K for Divisional Round win
- $500K for Conference Championship win
That’s an extra $3 million earned.
Of a possible $5M in incentives for this season, he's secured at least $3M. He'd add $1M more if he wins Super Bowl LX.
This was of course a big part of a total team effort that got him to this point of earning $3 million more dollars & in his postgame press conference, Sam Darnold expressed his appreciation for his teammates’ support.
“It’s great. It’s great that I feel that support not with only their words but just with how everyone treats each other in the building,” Darnold said. “There is a lot of respect that goes around the building. Everyone respects the work we all put into this great game. I’m just happy to be a part of this team, this group and this coaching staff.” Darnold continued, “I’m really happy to be here, happy to be in this position. I’m just going to continue to do the best that I can to put this team in positions to win football games.”
