Seattle Mariners Select LSU LHP Kade Anderson with No. 3 Overall Pick

This was a huge day for the Seattle Mariners as the team SWEPT the Detroit Tigers to finish off the first half of the season. Directly after, the Mariners selected LHP Kade Anderson with the No. 3 Pick in the MLB Draft.

Anderson was a favorite to go No. 1 overall, which would have made him the second LSU pitcher to go first in the draft in the past three years, following current Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes. Instead, the Washington Nationals took shortstop Eli Willits with the first pick. Right-hander Tyler Bremner then went No. 2 overall to the Los Angeles Angels.

He posted a 3.18 ERA across 18 starts for LSU last season, striking out an NCAA-best 180 batters in 119 innings while earning All-American honors and the Baseball America Pitcher of the Year award. He ended his season on a high note when he threw a shutout against Coastal Carolina in Game 1 of the MCWS final, the first shutout in a final since 2018.

One thing to consider with this pick is that Anderson is one of the most pro-ready players in the draft, and it wouldn't be impossible to see him play by 2026.

It was an incredible sophomore season for the 21-year-old left-hander, who finished 2025 with a 12-1 record, a 3.18 ERA, 180 strikeouts (the most among Division I pitchers) and 35 walks over 119 innings, vaulting up MLB Pipeline’s Draft prospect rankings as a result. Anderson was MLB Pipeline’s No. 44 player in December, but he climbed into the Top 10 when the rankings were updated in April and continued to rise from there, jumping all the way to No. 2 going into the Draft.

What a day for the Seattle Mariners.
