Seattle Seahawks Re-Signing Preseason Standout Rookie OLB Jamie Sheriff

One day after clearing waivers following a short tenure with the Carolina Panthers, Jamie Sheriff is re-signing with the Seattle Seahawks practice squad. When Sheriff was initially not on the Seahawks roster to end camp, it came as a surprise to many. He was one of those rare standout rookies in preseason that some fans fell in love with. Thankfully for the Seahawks, the Panthers let him go, and he is back with the practice squad and can fully develop in Seattle.

He was an undrafted rookie that recorded eight tackles, three sacks and 12 pressures in three games. After cutdowns, he did not make the Seahawks 53-man roster and the Carolina Panthers picked him up off waivers the next day.

Jamie Sheriff had the opportunity to sign with any team in the NFL when he was released by the Panthers, we are not sure how many offers he had, but he ultimately chose to sign with the team that gave him an opportunity after the draft, the Seattle Seahawks.

From Seattle Seahawks ON SI: "Seattle's practice squad is full at 16 players plus an exempt International Pathway Program (IPP) player, so somebody must be waived or released. The Seahawks already have three practice squad outside linebackers in Tyus Bowser, Tyreke Smith and Kenneth Odumegwu. The latter is Seattle's IPP designated player."

The Seahawks will be making a move to release one more player here soon, and we will be updating the news as it comes in. This year is one of those years where it seems like the Seahawks have a lot of potential talent on the practice squad, and it might not be an easy decision who to let go.
