Shane McClanahan Just Shut Out Toronto and the Rays Won't Stop Winning at Home

Tampa Bay is rolling hard right now. Shane McClanahan took the mound Wednesday afternoon in St. Petersburg and absolutely dominated the Blue Jays, firing 5 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball while allowing just two hits. The Rays cashed in with a 3-0 shutout win, and here's the thing: this was their 10th straight home victory. Ten in a row at home. That's the kind of streak that gets everyone's attention.

McClanahan Is Dealing

McClanahan improved to 4-2 with this performance, and the numbers don't lie. When you're giving up just two hits over 5 2/3 innings and keeping a team completely off the board, you're doing something special. Toronto came into this game looking for something, anything, to keep pace, but McClanahan had other plans. This was a complete shutdown performance that capped off a sweep for Tampa Bay.

The Home Run Problem for Toronto

The Blue Jays are dealing with some real issues right now. They couldn't generate anything offensively against McClanahan's stuff, and meanwhile their own rotation is hurting. Max Scherzer told reporters after Wednesday's game that his forearm injury isn't responding the way he'd hoped. The 41-year-old threw at Tropicana Field but acknowledged the arm isn't cooperating like he needs it to. When your ace can't ramp up the way he wants to because of an injury, that's a problem you can't ignore.

Watch the Rays again this weekend. A home team that's won 10 straight and keeps finding ways to shut teams down is dangerous. The Blue Jays need to find their footing fast, or this early stretch is going to leave them in a hole they can't climb out of.
