This might be a crazy idea, but there are a lot of crazy ideas that turn out to be good. The Seattle Seahawks should trade for Bryce Young and let him sit behind Geno Smith and learn.
It's pretty simple, Bryce Young has really low trade-value right now, you might be able to acquire him for a couple of later round picks, his value isn't going to change much right now.
We've seen way too many success stories of QBs that play for bad franchises, the team quits on them too soon, and they become good elsewhere. We also have a lot of evidence that if a young QB sits behind a good QB, they end up being good.
The Green Bay Packers have had success with Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, and now Jordan Love, all sitting and learning.
Patrick Mahomes sat behind Alex Smith with the Kansas City Chiefs before getting the job. Even Tom Brady sat behind Drew Bledsoe before getting the New England Patriots job.
Need some more evidence? Here you go.
The Seattle Seahawks current QB, Geno Smith, was a backup for six years before getting his second chance with the Seahawks, and he is one of the multiple QBs having really good seasons while being on their second or third chance:
- Geno Smith
- Baker Mayfield
- Jared Goff
- Sam Darnold
These QBs are all playing at Top 10 levels this year, and they are all second-chance projects.
So why not trade for Bryce Young? Let him learn for 2-3 years behind Geno Smith and then see what he becomes? I think it's the clear move to do.
