Texier's Overtime Winner Puts Canadiens One Win Away From Lightning Elimination

Montreal just took control of this series, and Tampa Bay is running out of time. Texier scored the go-ahead goal in Game 5, pushing the Canadiens to a 3-2 series lead and putting the Lightning on the brink of elimination. One more win and Montreal advances to the second round.

Montreal's Path to Victory

The Canadiens got contributions up and down their lineup in this crucial road win. Newhook and Gallagher teamed up to open the scoring early, setting the tone. James ripped in a beautiful snap shot to tie things up, and Dach cashed in on a rebound to keep Montreal's offense rolling. But it was Texier who delivered the dagger, getting it past Vasilevskiy when it mattered most. That's the kind of playoff performance that sends a team to the next round.

Lightning Still Fighting, But Time's Running Out

Tampa Bay made a final push in the waning moments of Game 5, but it wasn't enough to force overtime or steal a win. Vasilevskiy was solid in net, but the Lightning couldn't find a way to stop Montreal's balanced attack. Now they head back home needing to win Game 6 just to extend the series to a seventh game. That's the position you don't want to be in during the playoffs.

What's Next

The Canadiens smell blood in the water. Game 6 is coming up, and if Montreal can finish the job, they'll be moving on to face their second-round opponent. Tampa Bay has everything to play for, but the pressure is squarely on their shoulders now.
