Adalyne Montiel's FOURTH Title and Washington Is About To Rethink Everything

Alright, you guys, if you weren't watching the WIAA Mat Classic XXXVII at the Tacoma Dome this past Saturday, February 21, 2026, you missed some ABSOLUTELY INSANE action! We're talking about pure, unadulterated dominance that's gonna echo through Washington state wrestling for years to come. The big news? Toppenish girls wrestling just snagged their FIFTH straight team championship, and holy smokes, Adalyne Montiel became a legend, earning her fourth individual title! This is the kind of dynasty you tell your grandkids about, seriously. It felt different, too, according to Montiel, which just shows how much heart goes into every single win.

Four-Timers and Chasing Glory: Individual Brilliance Lights Up Tacoma

Let's talk about the incredible individual performances, because WOW. Adalyne Montiel isn't the only one making history with four individual titles. Toppenish's Justyce Zuniga also powered his way to his fourth title in the 2A boys division! Watching Zuniga, whose career is built on a fast pace no one can match, finally slow down in that last minute, you just knew it was the culmination of something special. It wasn't all about the four-timers either, though. In the 1A/2B girls' division, Granger had a trio of winners making waves. Gabrielle Berger went out in style with a repeat title, showing that consistent excellence. Sonia Mendoza, after four years of grinding, finally got the title she'd been chasing. And then there's freshman Vanessa Torres, who just launched her bid for what they call the "rarest of all prizes." Imagine the pressure, the grind, the sheer will these athletes show. It's unreal, folks!

Team Trophies, Depth, and Runner-Up Heartbreak

While the individual heroics were front and center, the team battles were just as intense. Toppenish girls, we already shouted them out for their five-peat, simply unbelievable. Over in the 1A boys' division, Wapato once again reigned supreme, defending their team title by leaning on their depth. You gotta respect that "built from the bottom up" philosophy, it clearly works! Zillah boys were runner-up again in 1A, but they still had three individual winners, so you know they brought the fight. And in the 2B boys' division, Granger narrowly claimed the team title with a pair of individual champs. Toppenish boys, after Zuniga's incredible run, finished a strong second place in 2A. On the girls' side for 1A/2B, Granger also secured a runner-up finish thanks to their trio of champions. Every single point mattered, every match, every takedown. So, what's next after a Mat Classic like this? These athletes, these teams, they just set the bar incredibly high. The legacy of these champions, especially the four-timers like Montiel and Zuniga, is etched into Washington state sports history. For the freshmen like Torres, this is just the beginning of a potential legendary career. You know the competition will only get fiercer next year in the Tacoma Dome, but for now, we gotta celebrate the sheer grit and talent we saw. It truly puts Washington on the map for wrestling, and you KNOW we'll be counting down the days until next year! What an event!
