Three Coaches Are Fighting for Hockey's Best Coach Award and One Has Everything to Prove

The NHL just dropped the three finalists for the 2026 Jack Adams Award, and it's a battle between three heavy hitters who are reshaping their franchises in totally different ways. Jon Cooper at Tampa Bay, Dan Muse in Pittsburgh, and Lindy Ruff in Buffalo are the ones in the running for the award that celebrates the league's best coaching.

Who's Getting the Nod?

This is the kind of announcement that reminds you how much a great coach matters. Cooper, Muse, and Ruff have all made massive impacts on their teams this season, and the Jack Adams Award is the hardware that recognizes exactly that. These three didn't just luck into being finalists. They've earned it through the regular season grind, and now one of them will take home the hardware.

What This Means for the League Right Now

This is peak coaching narrative season. You've got three different philosophies, three different team builds, and three different approaches to winning hockey games all competing for the same honor. It's the kind of recognition that matters because the coaching job in the NHL is relentless. From opening night through the stretch run, these guys have been the difference makers for their teams.

The winner gets announced soon, but for now, all three have a legitimate case. That's what makes this race so good. No clear favorite, just three elite coaches doing what they do best: making their teams better every single night.
