Three Teams Punch Their Tickets to Bucharest: HEROIC, Spirit, and SAR Clinch PGL Wallachia Playoffs

The stakes were brutal on Wednesday in Bucharest. Sixteen teams started the $1 million PGL Wallachia Season 8 Dota 2 tournament. Only eight would move on. By the end of Round 5, HEROIC, South America Rejects, and Team Spirit had secured the final three playoff spots, and the intensity was off the charts.

The Do-or-Die Matches That Changed Everything

Wednesday's action came down to one thing: teams with 2-2 records fighting for their tournament lives. HEROIC demolished GamerLegion in straight sets, closing out the series in 42 minutes on red and 44 minutes on green. That's efficiency under pressure.

South America Rejects had to work harder. They took down MOUZ 2-1 in a back-and-forth battle. SAR's first map victory came in 45 minutes on green, then MOUZ fought back with a 53-minute win on red before SAR sealed it with a 58-minute victory on red. That's the kind of resilience that gets you to the playoffs.

Team Spirit delivered two dominant performances. Their first match went the distance at 72 minutes on red before they closed it out in just 40 minutes on green against Xtreme Gaming. When you can follow up a marathon like that with a blowout, you've earned your spot.

Here's What Happens Next

The double-elimination playoffs kick off Thursday, and every match from here until Sunday is best-of-three. The exception is Sunday's grand final: that's best-of-five, and the winner takes home $300,000. That's a massive payday waiting for someone.

Thursday's upper-bracket quarterfinal matchups are set. PARIVISION takes on South America Rejects. Aurora Gaming faces HEROIC. Team Liquid plays Team Falcons. And BetBoom Team meets Team Spirit. These are the games that separate contenders from pretenders.
