UConn Just Added a 38% Three-Point Shooter From Europe and the Backcourt Is About to Get Scary
UConn basketball landed one of the transfer portal's most dangerous scorers on Tuesday, and this move might be the final piece that tips the Huskies back into contention. Wofford guard Nils Machowski, a 6-foot-3 combo guard from Berlin, Germany, committed to the program after visiting Storrs over the weekend, according to a report from Jonathan Givony.
This is not some mid-major afterthought trying to find minutes. Machowski spent his junior year at Wofford putting up 17.2 points per game, good for seventh in the Southern Conference. More importantly for a modern college offense, he was chucking 7.4 threes a night and connecting at 38.2% from deep. That's the kind of volume and accuracy that changes how defenses have to think about spacing.

Last season, Machowski had three games where he dropped 30 or more points. In his career-high 37-point outburst against the Citadel, he was unconscious from three, going 8-for-11 from beyond the arc. He made at least seven threes in all three of those 30-point games. In fact, he connected on at least four threes in 11 different games throughout the year. Beyond the scoring, he also averaged 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, showing he brings more than just volume shooting.
Before his time at Wofford, Machowski played his first two college seasons in a limited role at UCF. Before that, he came up through Alba Berlin's U19 program in Germany, winning back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023, so he has pedigree competing at a high level.
The Roster Takes Shape
With Machowski's addition and former Stanford center Oskar Giltay already locked in, UConn's rotation is nearly complete. He will slot in as a reserve in the backcourt, likely behind returning star Braylon Mullins at the two. The Huskies are still hunting for one rotational power forward before rounding out the roster with depth pieces.
The roster now sits at 10 players with incoming freshmen Junior County and Colben Landrew expected to make an immediate impact. Add in returners Silas Demary Jr. and Jayden Ross alongside the portal pickups like Machowski, and the Huskies look set to compete right away.
