Awa Fam Just Won a Championship, and Seattle Is Ready To Unleash Her

Storm fans, did you feel that electric current Friday night? Our Seattle Storm pulled off a massive 77-59 win over the Connecticut Sun, moving to 2-4 on the season! And guess who was in the building, ready to bring that championship energy? Awa Fam, our No. 3 draft pick, fresh off a SPANISH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, is here in the Emerald City, buzzing for her WNBA debut! Get ready, Seattle, because this 19-year-old phenom is NOT tired, she's "more excited!"

Championship Glow and Zero Fatigue

Can you believe this kid? Fam, a 6-foot-4 center, just wrapped up a title run with Valencia, lifting a Spanish League championship trophy. You'd think she'd be looking for a nap, right? WRONG. At her first U.S. news conference Friday, she absolutely shut down any talk of fatigue. "I feel good. For me, it's OK, I'm 19 years old. I'm ready to play right now in the W," Fam declared. "I don't feel tired. It's more excited." That's the kind of fire we love here in Seattle, someone who lives and breathes the game. She didn't hit the court Friday against the Sun, but trust, the minute she does, she's going to make an impact. "This is what I love," she said, "I love to be improving, I love to practice, to know more about this league and about this sport. It's new challenges that I really want." She turns 20 on June 17, and the league better be ready.

The Future is Fam, and We Need Her Now

Remember the draft back in April? Fam was a legit contender for the No. 1 pick. The Dallas Wings grabbed Azzi Fudd, and the Minnesota Lynx scooped up Olivia Miles at No. 2. Those two have been with their teams since day one, getting their feet wet. But our wait for Fam, who WNBA general managers picked as the player who would be the BEST in five years, is about to pay off big time. She's been watching us, even while winning a championship overseas. And let's be real, we need her. With Ezi Magbegor sidelined with a foot injury and Dominique Malonga dealing with a concussion, our post game could use a serious boost. Fam's arrival can't come soon enough for the 2-4 Storm.

Dream Come True, Future Bright

So, who does Awa Fam look up to? The Las Vegas Aces' four-time MVP center, A'ja Wilson, of course! "A'ja Wilson is my idol, so I love her. She is like my model," Fam gushed. "When I was 15 years old, I never imagined that I was going to be here. Now I'm excited because my dream has come true." That's the kind of passion that builds champions, folks. The date for her WNBA debut is still under wraps, but knowing she's in town, itching to play, and just won a championship, has us absolutely hyped. The Storm are back on the court for their next game, and every single one of us will be glued to the screen, waiting for Fam to finally unleash her talent on the WNBA. Let's go Storm!
