Awa Fam Won a Spanish Title, And She's Telling Seattle She's 'Ready to Play Right Now' for Your Storm!
Drafting Awa Fam at #3 was a massive move, and guess what, Emerald City? Our girl just bagged a whole darn championship with Valencia overseas! And get this: she ain't even thinking about being tired. Nope. Our 19-year-old center, who should be exhausted, is instead dropping fire quotes like, "I'm ready to play right now in the W. I don't feel tired. It's more excited." YEAH, FAM! That's the energy we need in Climate Pledge!
No Rest for the Champion: Fam's Fire to Play
Our 6-foot-4 center didn't hit the court Friday against the Connecticut Sun, but honestly, who cares about the debut date when you hear her talk? Fam's got that championship hunger, telling everyone, "This is what I love. I love to be improving, I love to practice, to know more about this league and about this sport. It's new challenges that I really want." This woman lives for the grind, folks! Turning 20 on June 17, she was legit in the mix for the top pick, right there with Azzi Fudd, who Dallas took at #1, and Olivia Miles, who Minnesota grabbed at #2. While those other rookies have been balling since day one, Fam's been getting that championship seasoning. Now, it's our turn.

The league's general managers might have pegged Olivia Miles as their Rookie of the Year favorite, but don't you dare sleep on our Fam. Those same GMs picked her as the 2026 rookie they believe will be the absolute BEST player in five years! Yeah, you heard that right. While she was busy dominating in Spain, Fam was still keeping tabs on our beloved Storm, who were sitting at a rough 1-4 coming into Friday's game. And with our post players Ezi Magbegor, out with a foot injury, and Dominique Malonga, sidelined by a concussion, Fam's arrival isn't just exciting, it's a lifeline!
It's a dream come true for her, too, seeing as how she told us A'ja Wilson, the four-time MVP from the Las Vegas Aces, is her idol! Fam said she "never imagined" being here at 15, and now her dream has come true. Get ready for some serious inspiration, Seattle!
So, when does Fam finally step onto the court for the green and blue? We don't have that official announcement yet, but you better believe we'll be glued to every single update. With Magbegor and Malonga out, our Storm needs that fresh energy, that championship mentality, and that pure excitement Fam is bringing from overseas. This isn't just another rookie, this is a player who's already tasted gold and is hungry for more. Get ready, Emerald City, because Awa Fam's WNBA dream is about to become our reality, and it's going to be electric!
