Chris Santo, DII Champion, Landed at Loyola Maryland and College Hoops Noticed

Alright, Emerald City, hold onto your hats! While our M's are getting warmed up at T-Mobile Park and the Seahawks are grinding, the college basketball world just dropped some serious bombshells! Loyola University Maryland pulled off a major coup, snagging Chris Santo as an assistant coach. This isn't just any standard hire. We're talking about a guy who, as a head coach, led an NCAA Division II team to a conference title AND an NCAA regional title game in the 2025-26 season! That's right, a proven winner! Head Coach Josh Loeffler isn't messing around, bringing in someone with that kind of recent success. This move screams Loyola is ready to seriously elevate its game.

Familiar Faces Back, New Blood Arrives!

The coaching carousel keeps spinning, and we've got fantastic homecomings and fresh talent popping up! Over at Florida Gulf Coast, Head Coach Pat Chambers is practically bursting with excitement. They just announced Darrin Wallace joining the Eagles' staff for the 2026-27 season. Why's this a big deal? Wallace isn't just a new face, he's FGCU alumni! He also crushed it as a head coach at FSW previously. Chambers didn't hold back, calling Wallace "an outstanding head coach, recruiter, and mentor." Talk about bringing that winning mentality right back home!

And speaking of returns, the Chattanooga Mocs are bringing back a familiar vibe. Head Coach Dan Earl officially announced Tom Kiely is making his return to the Mocs' staff for the 2026-27 season. Kiely is no stranger to the Scenic City, having served as their Director of Basketball Operations before. It's a massive plus when you can bring back someone who already knows the program's DNA. These are shrewd moves that build championship-caliber cultures.

More Power Moves: Fresh Coaching Talent Everywhere

Beyond the returns, serious fresh blood is entering the college coaching landscape. Hanover College is definitely shaking things up by bringing in Trey Shabazz as an assistant coach for the upcoming season. Shabazz, from Holy Cross College since 2024, has a solid resume covering crucial recruiting, travel coordination, and essential team duties. He knows the ins and outs of building a squad, ready to hit the ground running.

Then we've got Spring Arbor University, making a fantastic choice in Mark DeLaney as their new head coach. This dude is no rookie, boasting nearly two decades of coaching experience across NCAA Division II, NAIA, and high school basketball. He arrives with a stellar reputation for player development, crushing it in recruiting, and building a Christ-centered program. That deep experience and clear focus on nurturing talent is absolutely what you want for sustained success.

What's Next? College Hoops is Heating Up!

So, while our Mariners battle to find their rhythm early in the MLB season and the Seahawks quietly build for an exciting fall, these college basketball programs are making absolute power moves, shaping their destinies. These aren't just random names; these are the strategists, motivators, mentors, the guys who mold future stars and reshape entire programs. Keep your eyes peeled, because the coaching carousel is spinning fast, and with this caliber of talent, the 2026-27 season is already shaping up to be absolutely wild. Can't wait for tip-off, can you? It's going to be epic!
