JJ Wetherholt's Two-Run Shot Powers Cardinals Past Athletics, Hot Streak Continues
The St. Louis Cardinals are riding high right now, and they're making it look easy against the Oakland Athletics. JJ Wetherholt launched a two-run homer on Tuesday night to lead the Cardinals to a 6-4 victory at West Sacramento, California, keeping their momentum rolling in what's become a seriously impressive stretch.
Wetherholt Delivers the Big Blow
Wetherholt came through when it mattered most, connecting for the two-run shot that would set the tone for St. Louis. The Cardinals weren't done there either. Jose Fermin added his own two-run double to put even more distance between his team and Oakland. Ivan Herrera chipped in with two hits of his own, turning what could have been a close game into a comfortable win by the end.

Athletics Dealing With Injury Problems
The Athletics are heading in the opposite direction right now. All-Star shortstop Jacob Wilson hit the 10-day injured list before this series opener after suffering a left shoulder subluxation. The 24-year-old got hurt Sunday diving for a ball, and now Oakland is without one of their key playmakers. When you're already struggling, losing your star shortstop makes everything harder.
That's the kind of injury that can derail a season if you're not careful. For a team like Oakland that's trying to compete, losing a guy like Wilson at this point stings.
Cardinals Keep Rolling
St. Louis came into this matchup looking to extend their strong stretch, and that's exactly what they did. The offense showed up, the pitching kept Oakland in check, and the Cardinals walked away with a solid victory. This is the kind of performance that builds confidence heading into the next matchup.
