Lamine Yamal, 18 Years Old, Scored 10 Minutes Into His Return and The World Cup Is Losing Its Mind

Alright, Seattle, you know that buzz, that electric feeling when a superstar hits the field? Multiply that by a thousand. That's what's happening with Lamine Yamal right now, and if you're not watching, you're missing the future of soccer unfolding before your eyes. This 18-year-old phenom for Spain just stepped back onto the biggest stage after a brutal injury, and within ten minutes, he dropped a bomb. Seriously, what is even happening?!

The Yamal Mania Is Real and It's Global

Forget what you thought you knew about young stars, because Yamal is operating on a different planet. Earlier this month in Chattanooga, charter buses pulled up and the fans went absolutely bonkers. We're talking hundreds of screaming, banner-waving, jersey-donning people, smartphones pointed, necks craned. And while all of Spain's world-class players got love, the ear-splitting shrieks? Those were all for Yamal. "Lamine! Lamine!" they chanted. Former U.S. men's national team general manager Bill Nuttall said about 1,500 people were there, and a solid 1,000 of them rocked Yamal jerseys. When he got off that bus, Nuttall said it sounded like a jet engine. This kid isn't even licensed to drive a car and still wears braces, but he's already being compared to Messi himself, with that same insane technique and jaw-dropping creativity. He's got 43.5 million Instagram followers, more than Ohtani, Mahomes, and Federer combined. He's the face of Adidas,

American Eagle, McDonald's. A towering Powerade ad featuring him just went up on a 42-story hotel in Atlanta, and videos of him just shopping at Walmart racked up millions of views. The hype is legitimate, and it's absolutely everywhere.

Immediate Impact After Injury, Pure Magic on the Field

So, after all that off-field frenzy, how does he perform when it counts? You tell me. Yamal had a torn left hamstring that ended his club season back in April. But on Sunday, making his return to the starting lineup, he didn't waste a second. Ten minutes into Spain's match against Saudi Arabia, *bam*, he scored Spain's first goal of this World Cup. Ten. Minutes. It was a massive shot in the arm for Spain, especially after they couldn't even find the net in a shocking 0-0 opener against tiny Cape Verde. Spain's coach, Luis de la Fuente, isn't holding back on the praise, calling him "a player blessed by God." He added, "Football geniuses have something special, and he has it." De la Fuente told DAZN earlier this year that Yamal is "touched by magic." And Barcelona coach Hansi Flick last year put it simply: "I am convinced he will become one of the best players the football world has ever seen." Look, if this kid can keep this up and help Spain lift another major trophy, his stardom is going to rocket even higher. We're talking about a player whose early career highlights are already becoming legendary. Every match from here on out is a chance to watch pure football magic. You do not want to miss a single second of this kid's World Cup run.
