Mariners Can't Close Out Houston, Drop Game Three to the Astros

The Seattle Mariners walked away from the third game of their series against the Houston Astros without the win they needed. Final score: Astros 4, Mariners 3. It was right there for the taking, but Houston found a way to escape with the series still very much in play.

Another One That Got Away

Games like this sting. The Mariners had their chance to secure the series against one of the AL West's toughest opponents, and they came up one run short. In a three-game set against the Astros, you have to take what you can get, but leaving Seattle with only one win from this stretch is frustrating when a sweep was within reach.

The Astros scored four runs and held on tight. The Mariners put up three but couldn't push across the equalizer when it mattered most. These are the kinds of games that add up over the course of a season, especially early on when momentum is everything and every series against division competition shapes how the rest of your year unfolds.

Looking Ahead

The Mariners will regroup and prepare for what comes next. Early May is still early enough to shake off a loss like this, but the window to make noise in the AL West doesn't stay open forever. Houston showed they're not going away quietly, and Seattle will need to be sharper the next time these two teams square off.

The baseball season is a long grind, and one series doesn't make or break anything. But against a team like the Astros, in their building, you want to leave with more than you got.
