He then added back-to-back National League Cy Youngs in 2016 and 2017 as a cornerstone of the Washington Nationals, demonstrating a rare longevity and adaptability across leagues. Beyond these top pitching honors, Scherzer has been a fixture at the Midsummer Classic, earning an impressive eight All-Star selections throughout his illustrious career, a testament to his consistent high-level performance year after year.
While individual awards highlight personal excellence, Scherzer also has the ultimate team prize: a World Series ring. In 2019, he was instrumental in leading the Washington Nationals to their first-ever championship, battling through injuries and delivering crucial performances in the postseason. His individual accomplishments extend to rare feats on the mound as well. Scherzer has thrown two no-hitters in his career, both coming in the spectacular 2015 season. Furthermore, he etched his name into the record books as one of only four pitchers in MLB history to record 20 strikeouts in a single nine-inning game, a truly masterful display of pitching dominance.
