Shedeur Sanders Is The People's Champion Already and Deshaun Watson Is Treading Water

Alright, Emerald City, listen up! The QB drama over in Cleveland is absolutely BONKERS right now, and honestly, you gotta pay attention! Shedeur Sanders, man, that dude is straight-up blowing up as one of the most popular celebrity athletes in the entire NFL. On the flip side? You’ve got Deshaun Watson, who's still sitting there with the title of the least likable quarterback in the whole dang league. What does that wild dynamic create? It's made Shedeur the undeniable 'people's champion' in the race to be the starting QB for the Browns. They just wrapped up their three-day mandatory minicamp on Thursday, June 11, and guess what? Head Coach Todd Monken didn't name a starter. The battle rages on, but the vibes, the energy, and the optics, man, they're speaking volumes!

Minicamp Momentum: Sanders Soars, Watson Sinks?

So, how did this mandatory minicamp play out for these two signal-callers? Well, if you were hoping for a clear-cut winner, you're gonna be disappointed. Coach Monken didn't declare a starter between Sanders and Watson after all was said and done. But here's the absolute kicker: Shedeur Sanders built some serious momentum during those minicamp practices. We're talking about a guy looking sharp, making plays, and generally just thriving! Meanwhile, poor Deshaun Watson? The report says he 'labored to tread water.' Can you believe it? It’s one thing to not dominate, but to be actively struggling, just trying to keep your head above water? That's a rough look, especially when your competition is a fan-favorite phenom.

The People Have Spoken, Coach Monken Still Mute

Now, we gotta keep it real: judging these 'spring practices' can be a bit foolish because it’s not 'real football' out there with pads popping. You don't get the full picture, right? But even with that caveat, when one dude is clearly flying high and the other is just trying to stay afloat, the shift in energy and perception is undeniable. Shedeur Sanders, a 'celebrity athlete' in the NFL, brings massive expectation. Then you've got Deshaun Watson, whose 'least likable quarterback' reputation makes it a tough hill to climb. This gap in public perception and likability is exactly what made Sanders the 'people's champion' for that starting QB role. Coach Monken might be holding his cards close, but the court of public opinion has delivered its verdict. Momentum, likability, and performance are all pointing one way for the fans.

What’s Next For Cleveland’s QB Chaos?

So, where do the Browns go from here, with this heated QB battle still unsettled? The minicamp is over, the fight for QB1 is clearly still on, and there's no official word. But with Shedeur Sanders gaining serious steam and Deshaun Watson reportedly struggling to keep pace, the stakes are absolutely massive for that starting job. You gotta wonder how long Coach Monken can hold off the inevitable, especially when one player is clearly winning hearts and minds AND performing better. We'll be watching this one closely, because that starting QB spot isn't just about talent; it's about leading a team and electrifying a fanbase. And right now, only one guy is doing that in Cleveland.
