The Super Bowl Rematch Nobody Saw Coming: Patriots and Seahawks Open 2026 in Seattle
Mark your calendars. The NFL just announced the 2026 schedule, and the league made a statement by kicking off the entire season with a Super Bowl rematch. The New England Patriots are heading to Seattle to face the Seahawks in Week 1, and if you thought that matchup was done after the big game, think again.
This is the kind of opening statement the league loves to make. Two teams that have already played each other at the highest level, coming back to do it all over again on primetime to start a fresh campaign. The Seahawks get to host it at home, which means the 12s will be loud, the Emerald City will be electric, and Sam Darnold gets his first chance to lead the new-look Seattle offense against one of the AFC's best.

The Seahawks made some serious moves this offseason, and the quarterback position is ground zero for change. Darnold is the guy now, and what better stage to prove it than against a Patriots team that just made it to the Super Bowl? He's got weapons too. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Rashid Shaheed, and Cooper Kupp give him legitimate playmakers on the outside. Brian Fleury's offense will have to establish early identity and rhythm, and this matchup is as big a test as you can get in Week 1.
New England Comes to Town Hungry
The Patriots aren't coming to Seattle to be ceremonial starters. They were good enough to reach the Super Bowl, and that experience matters. They'll be looking to prove that run wasn't a fluke and that they belong in the conversation at the top of the AFC. For Mike Macdonald and the Seahawks defense, that's going to be a serious challenge from kick one.
This opener sets the tone for everything that follows. Win it, and Seattle starts hot with momentum heading into their next test. Lose it, and the Seahawks start climbing out of a hole from day one. Either way, the Super Bowl rematch is back on, and this time it's for real.
Get ready. Week 1 is coming, and the Emerald City is about to be the center of the NFL universe.
