The Two Words Todd Bowles Said About Baker Mayfield That Tampa Bay Fans Are Clinging To

Alright, so we're not talking about our beloved Seahawks or the Mariners right now, but sometimes you gotta look around the league and see what other teams are cooking up. And let me tell you, down there in Tampa, things are getting interesting as they gear up for the 2026 season. We just got the lowdown on their training camp schedule, and frankly, the vibe around their quarterback, Baker Mayfield, is something else. Todd Bowles, their head coach, just dropped two specific words that are probably making Bucs fans breathe a little easier right about now: "True Pro."

Mayfield Stepping Up and the QB Room Buzz

Yeah, you heard that right. Todd Bowles, speaking on Baker Mayfield, called him a "True Pro." In today's NFL, that kind of endorsement from your head coach, especially before camp even kicks off, is huge. It's not just some throwaway line, it tells you where the leadership is coming from. And speaking of leadership, Mayfield wasn't just chilling, he was out there hosting his youth football camp, showing that community connection. Plus, the energy in their quarterback room sounds pretty high. Rookie QB Jalon Daniels is already "having a blast" with the team. That kind of early positive energy, especially from a young guy, can be contagious. It makes you wonder what kind of chemistry they're building before they even hit the practice field in full force.

Early Standouts and Offensive Shifts

It's not all about the QBs, of course. Some other names are already popping up from early workouts and minicamp. Kenneth Gainwell is being called an "Unsung Leader," and man, you gotta love those guys who just put in the work and get recognized by their teammates and coaches. That's the kind of grit that builds a strong locker room. Jacob Parrish is also getting some buzz for his versatility, which is always a plus in a dynamic offense. And get this: they're planning an increase in wide zone on offense. That’s a pretty significant scheme adjustment that could really open things up for their playmakers. We even saw a highlight of Jalen McMillan leaping for a one-hand snag in OTA, and Ted Hurst had a "Rookie Year Loading" highlight. These glimpses give you a sense of who's ready to explode when July rolls around.

The Countdown to Training Camp Kicks Off

So, when does all this excitement hit the actual field? The Buccaneers have officially announced their 2026 training camp schedule, and it’s kicking off on July 30 at the AdventHealth Training Center. They're going to have eight open practices, with three of those being open to the general public. That’s a good number of opportunities for fans to get a look at this team before the season even starts. After hearing Bowles' comments and seeing these early player highlights, you know Bucs fans are gonna be clamoring to see how that "True Pro" Mayfield leads the charge and how these new offensive schemes start to take shape. For any NFL team, training camp is where the foundation for the entire year gets poured. Every rep, every drill, every decision during those July and August practices can set the tone. It’s early, but the groundwork for their 2026 season is definitely being laid out, and the eyes of the league will be watching to see if Tampa can make some noise this fall.
