Tracy McGrady Is a Hall of Famer, and Now He's Building Wagner Basketball From the Inside

Here's something that just dropped on the college hoops radar: Tracy McGrady, a seven-time NBA All-Star and certified Hall of Famer, is joining Wagner College's men's basketball program as a strategic advisor. This is the kind of move that doesn't happen every day in the college game, and it signals something bigger is happening at Wagner.

One of the NBA's Best Is Now Advising the Next Generation

McGrady's résumé speaks for itself. Seven All-Star appearances, NBA scoring titles, playoff runs, the whole thing. Now he's taking his expertise to Staten Island to help shape Wagner's program. As a strategic advisor, McGrady will be embedded in the team's decision-making process, which means the program is getting access to someone who has been in every big moment the league has to offer.

This kind of hire doesn't happen by accident. Wagner is making a statement that they're serious about building something sustainable, and bringing in a Hall of Famer to guide the vision is one way to do that. McGrady's role as a strategic advisor means he'll be thinking bigger picture for the program, not just coaching individual players.

What This Means for Wagner Going Forward

College basketball is changing. Programs that want to compete are getting creative about who they bring into the fold, and Wagner just made a power move. Having someone of McGrady's caliber in the program's ear gives them credibility with recruits and legitimacy in a crowded landscape.

The college game needs fresh perspectives from guys who have been to the Finals, who have won games under pressure, who understand what it takes to make it at the highest level. McGrady has lived all of that, and now he's putting that knowledge to work in the college space.

Wagner basketball just got a lot more interesting. Watch how this program develops over the next few seasons, because when you have a Hall of Famer advising your direction, people are going to pay attention.
