Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs Just Demolished Minnesota 126-97, and the Series Is Theirs to Lose

The San Antonio Spurs are one win away from the Western Conference Finals. After Minnesota stole Game 4 to even the series at 2-2, the Spurs came out absolutely locked in on Tuesday night, routing the Timberwolves 126-97 in Game 5 to reclaim control of the series with a 3-2 lead.

Wembanyama Bounces Back in Dominant Fashion

Victor Wembanyama was on a mission in Game 5, and it showed immediately. Coming off his first career ejection, the Spurs star was especially focused and kept Minnesota's offense completely off balance. San Antonio's tifo near the southwest end of Frost Bank Center said it all: "Locked In." The Spurs weren't just locked in, they were suffocating. A 126-97 victory is the kind of statement win you need when a series gets tight, and Wembanyama's presence on both ends of the floor was the reason why.

Minnesota's Resilience Runs Into a Wall

Give the Timberwolves credit for stealing Game 4 to force a Game 5, but San Antonio's response was devastating. After Minnesota's 114-109 victory kept them alive at 2-2, the Spurs made it clear there would be no Game 6 heroics. The 29-point margin of victory in Game 5 shows just how completely San Antonio took over when it mattered most.

What's Next

The Spurs hold a 3-2 series lead and the chance to close this out in Minnesota. One more win and San Antonio advances to face either the Oklahoma City Thunder (who swept the Lakers) or whoever emerges from the Cavaliers-Pistons series. The Timberwolves aren't done fighting, but the momentum has shifted completely back to the second seed, and with Wembanyama playing like this, it's hard to imagine San Antonio letting this slip away.
