Wildcat Legends: Record Breakers and State Champions

The West Seattle High School athletic program has much to celebrate, especially with the graduation of student-athletes who have etched their names into the school's record books and brought home WIAA state titles. The dedication of these individuals to their respective sports is truly inspiring, showcasing the caliber of Washington prep athletics. In the pool, swimmers like Mack Rysmeus (200 Freestyle Relay), Jeremiah O’Keefe (200 Freestyle & 400 Freestyle Relays), and Nathan Boehmer (200 Freestyle Relay) are graduating as current school record holders. They are joined by relay specialists Will Frederick, Marcus Ramsey, and Aidan Murray in the 4x400 Relay, alongside Layla Ho, a standout in both the 4x200 and 4x400 Relays. These athletes have pushed the boundaries of speed and teamwork, leaving a lasting legacy of excellence in West Seattle aquatics. On the state championship front, the Wildcats have seen remarkable success across various disciplines. The 2024 Baseball team brought home a coveted WIAA state title, with graduating seniors Lincoln Scott, Cody Buehring, and Jake McCall playing pivotal roles in that memorable season. Beyond traditional sports, West Seattle High School also champions inclusivity, celebrating its Unified Soccer State Champions: Asher Rosenstock, Grace Carroll, Ellie Miller, Izzy McKamey, Jonas Darragh, and Jaykel Warwick. Their triumph showcases the power of teamwork and unity, setting a powerful example. A unique individual achievement also belongs to Molly Combs, who made history as the first individual Metro League State Champion in Bowling, a truly remarkable feat for both the league and West Seattle High School.

The Golden Wildcats: A Standard of Dedication

Perhaps one of the most profound honors bestowed is the Golden Wildcat Award. This recognition goes to student-athletes who exemplify exceptional commitment and school pride by competing in three sports during their senior year. While specific names for this graduating class were not individually listed in the announcement from Athletic Director Corey Sorenson, the award itself speaks volumes about the character and work ethic of these multisport athletes. These Golden Wildcats embody the true spirit of athletic excellence. Balancing academics, rigorous training, and team responsibilities across multiple seasons requires immense perseverance, discipline, and leadership. They significantly strengthen the overall athletic culture at West Seattle High School, supporting a wide range of teams and inspiring younger athletes to embrace the challenge of year-round involvement. Their willingness to contribute tirelessly across the field, court, track, or mat is a testament to their unwavering dedication to their school and their teammates, embodying the very best of Washington high school sports. As these accomplished student-athletes step forward to receive their diplomas, they carry with them not just honor cords but the invaluable lessons of teamwork, discipline, and triumph.
